The Wooden Bun Foot.
Now, you might be wondering what in the world a bun foot is, and on the other hand you might already know, however did you know there are so many different types and styles of bun feet they couldn’t possibly all be listed on one page, that’s for sure.
A bun foot is basically a wooden leg that can have many different designs and is mounted on the bottom of a piece of furniture such as a sofa or loveseat. Bun feet can be made of virtually any species of wood and in any style and any color.
Bun feet can be made of oak, ash, maple, cherry, and many other types of wood. They are often sold in sets of four, simply due to the fact that people are using them for furniture legs, which ordinarily requires at least four.
There are different styles of fastening bun feet as well, in the sense that some screw into the bottom of the chair frame while other bun feet types have a bolt that is sticking out of the top, which is inserted into a hole in the bottom corner of the frame and a nut is placed on top of it and tightened. In some cases you may have to drill a hole in the top of the bun foot in order to allow a screw that is sticking out of the frame to be inserted and the bun foot is then rotated and screwed tight.
Bun feet usually sit very low to the ground so you should take this into consideration for whatever piece of furniture you intend to use the bun feet on, for example if you are replacing the legs of your sofa with bun feet you should try to get the same height of bun foot as the sofa leg, otherwise your sofa is going to sit lower or possibly higher than it did before. Sometimes people replace sofa legs with bun feet because they cost less and are much easier to replace than the original legs of a sofa.
Bun feet can also be used on many other types of furniture such as dressers and night stands. They are also used on some coffee table designs if the legs of the coffee table are low to the floor. Bun feet can even be added to kitchen cabinets to dress them up and add style. Or if a piece of furniture sits too low to the ground there are some people who will fasten bun feet to the wooden legs that are already on the piece of furniture to give it more height. Often times this will work as long as you get the same size bun foot as the diameter of the leg that is on the piece of furniture you want to actually sit a little higher.
Bun feet also make it easier to move furniture around than simply having to lift the furniture or drag it across the floor which can cause damage to the furniture or the floor. By using bun feet with a Teflon or plastic glide on the bottom, the furniture will move easily and shouldn’t catch on floor surfaces as it would if the furniture was just sitting on the ground.
