There are so many different kinds of finials it would take a month of Sundays to describe each and every one. However, the basic thing to do obviously would be to explain what finials are in fact are.

A finial is an end of a curtain rod or some kind of drapery rod, it can be made of wood metal, ceramic just about anything but they are designed to look unique and original as well as off set whatever is hanging on them. The design is of course on both ends of the rod, and in some cases, in order to hang things on these finials one end is designed to be screwed on or off.

This allows the fabric or drapery to be hung on the finials. There are also bed finials as well. These are designs on the top of the four post type beds. It is the top piece of each of the four posts, thus being known as the bed finials.

There are many different finials and designs and some are made to screw on or off of the tip of a lamp shade or another piece of furniture.

While other finials are made just as curtain rods only they are not as plain obviously and the ends will usually come off in one form or another to allow material to be on the rods. Whereas a regular curtain rod simply hangs and is hidden by the curtains or drapery. Finials are designed to stick out and show beyond the curtains or the drapery giving off a more glamorous look and feel to a room.

Most finials are designed to be extra decorative in the sense that they either have more than one like there’s one on each end of a hanging finial or such as the posts on a four post bed. There are also those that match those that go above windows and also will match the four posts bed so the ideas of finials and how to use them are ultimately endless.

With finials you don’t have to be an expert to use them you just need to have an imagination on how you want a room to look. A home is almost like artwork, the way you design it in a big way shows your own personality. While some people choose to simply hang curtains on a simple straight curtain rod there are those who choose to go with the fancier hand painted finials and also use these finials in different areas of the home such as on the top of lamp shades and other places as well.

Finials are not expensive and they are not big either. In some stores they are sold individually, while in other stores you can by so many in a bag that are the same, either way you choose to purchase them is up to you. There are many styles to choose from and there are many finials made from different things. However the most popular finials are those made from wood. And then those made from ceramic or resin substances.
