Wood Furniture Kits

In today’s day and age, even if you don’t know all that much about woodworking but like the idea of creating a chair or end table, perhaps a coffee table kit, they are available and even the person with limited knowledge of wood can still put them together.

The kits all come with instructions and all the parts you need, even the wood glue, however you might need a few hand tools to complete the task.

Some wood kits such as those that eventually become lamp stands use dowels to hold shelves or a drawer in place or there may be wooden legs to put on, however in most lamp stands now, the wooden legs are made to screw into the base of the table top. Some instructions say to put wood glue on the threads while others do not. I suppose this is due to the fact that some lamp stands can actually be taken a part and moved easily. However, with this type of table, without gluing the legs as they are screwed into the base of the table the table may not be as sturdy or durable as you would like it to be. If it is the type that has a small shelf or two, putting it together using wooden dowels is a good idea and you should put some wood glue on the end of the wood dowels as you place them in position.

Most of the kits that you put together yourself are also unfinished meaning you have the choice of using varnish or stain on your finished project. In some cases people do paint the finished project, depending on what it is.

Wood furniture kits normally don’t come with replacement parts so if something gets broken you might want to keep a model number or something, in case you have to replace what ever part is broken such as the wood furniture leg.

In some cases if the leg is not broken completely wood glue will work to fix the problem simply by resealing a crack if it is not a bad crack. If it is a bad crack that holds much weight on the table, no amount of wood glue is going to help it however.

Wood furniture kits come in virtually every style or design of wood project you can think of really. From creating a chair that is made of wood, to tables and stands, and even wooden doll houses, which is a hobby that is becoming ever famous among those who like to work with wood. Even the dollhouse furniture is often made of wood. The shingles on the dollhouse are wood. It is just one of the many wood furniture kits available for people to purchase and put together. Once the project is completed it is an accomplishment to be proud of.

There are some people who will buy wood furniture kits that consist of say a rocking chair, they do everything the instructions say to do and very lovingly finish their what used to be a simple rocking chair wood furniture kit, into what is now an antique looking rocking chair by the way they have finished it. They are proud of their work, and it simply sets in the corner with a blanket draped over it, so people won’t sit in it.

Not because it won’t hold someone, it is meant to hold someone unless otherwise noted on the kit, they simply don’t want their creation to get broken.
