Choose good strong wood when you are making wood stairs, a kind that will not bend when stepped on or break easily with excessive force. It is hard to make them unbreakable because with weather and if they are outdoors they will have the elements of the weather taking its toll on them too.

If you are making something that has to deal with wood stairs inside, then you of course don’t have to worry about the elements of the weather, simply the normal everyday wear and tear. You still need to choose strong wood, and you also need to carpet the stairs or sand them completely to avoid any kind of wood splinters getting into feet. If you are making a stair rail you can choose to use the wooden balusters that are made and sold in most home improvement stores or lumber companies that have unique designs on them. If you are going to use this as an idea, remember to be sure you get enough balusters to finish the job just in case the store you purchase them from run out of them or they have to order more. To ensure you have enough,measure how far apart you want them to be and then you will know how many to get, at this point its an even better idea to get a few more just to be safe. When making wood steps some lumber companies will have precut formats already made, and all you have to do is put them together, however these precut formats are hard to use considering the height and length is unknown for your personal use of the wood stairs and the precut format of the wood steps might be too steep or not long enough to use. Sometimes you can order the wood stairs to be special made, it is expensive but it depends on which route you want to take when building and dealing with wood stairs.
