Sometimes for one reason or another a coffee table leg or sofa leg gets cracked or broken. If the coffee table was expensive or it has sentimental value in most cases you really don’t want to simply throw it out. Well, the good news is you don’t have to. There are ways of repairing it without having to replace it. The same goes if a sofa leg gets broken.

If your table leg is simply cracked and not too badly, all you might need is some wood glue. If it’s broken, well that takes more effort. Some people would take it to a woodworker and have them fix it and if you don’t know much about wood products this could be a good idea. Oftentimes however, all you have to do is unscrew the old broken leg from the sofa or table, and replace it with a new one.

In some cases replacing a wood table leg requires having to replace all of them if a match for the other legs cannot be found. If this is the case, you can usually find a complete new set of legs that are similar in style to the original ones, and replace them all. A furniture repair shop of some kind could redo the table for you, or you can often do it yourself.

With that in mind, a sofa leg that is broken, if there is some cloth that covers the legs when the leg is replaced it doesn’t necessarily have to match if a match cannot be found and if you don’t want all the legs to be replaced. If the legs on a table are held in place by bolts or screws it is a fairly easy task to replace a wood table leg if a match is found. However if the table is glued and doweled you should really take it somewhere to have the wood table legs replaced, or simply get rid of the old table.

Sometimes there’s no way of fixing the table or sofa legs and the ultimate decision that has to be made is to get a new table or sofa whichever it is. If it’s beyond fixing then no amount of effort or even finding someone who could fix it will be useful.

If the tabletop is special to you, in some instances a furniture repair shop or woodworking company may be able to replace all four of the legs for you. There are times when the four legs become weak and if this happens, you can sometimes reinforce the legs by the use of steel angle brackets at the base of the table and the leg for added support. By doing this, the leg of the table is no longer weak and can withstand more pressure due to the fact that the leg will no longer move, or wobble.

Also, if you are having all the legs on a wood table replaced be sure to measure the old legs so you have the height at which the table stands, otherwise the table may wind up shorter or higher than it used to set. And if it has matching dining room chairs this could prove to be a problem.

More and more sofas are being made with casters instead of wooden legs. However, even older sofas legs that are made of wood can usually be replaced easily.
