Kitchen Island Legs
Similar to newell posts used in stair cases, and stair balusters, kitchen island columns aren’t quite as fancy but are along the same style. They are often split in half and mounted flush, sort of like what is referred to as a pilaster.
The classic wooden column design for kitchen islands are usually anywhere from twenty nine inches in length to 42 inches in length, sometimes they are actually a little longer, depending on what the kitchen island design actually is.
It is pretty easy to create a kitchen island for yourself if you know something about woodworking and you have a simple plan in mind, you don’t always have to bring a professional in to do a few renovations on your home, in many situations you can do it yourself.
Some people like to do it themselves, both for the satisfaction and pride of knowing they did it themselves and for the money they save on labor as well.
There are several designs when it comes to kitchen island columns the most popular seems to be the English Country column. This is an old world design that comes in two different sizes. The column style next in line as far as popularity is the Country French turned column. These actually come in six different styles.
No matter what style you pick out be sure you get enough to finish the project in case you make a mistake and ruin one and can’t find the same kitchen island columns or have to wait until the store you got them from gets more in stock. This hampers your finishing the kitchen island project you have started and I’m sure you want to finish as soon as you can.
Some people choose kitchen island columns that somewhat match the kitchen cabinets already installed in their kitchens, and believe it or not, in most cases it is possible to get a pretty close match to the cabinets. Either by color, design, or the type of wood they are made of.

Most of the contractors that do this type of work know what they are doing, however it never hurts to make sure, and that they have references of some kind or have done this sort of project before. There are many ways to find this out.
You want your kitchen island to be perfect, its not really expensive to do, however if its done wrong, then it starts to get costly. |
