Stair Parts, Wood Stairs, Iron Balusters

Obviously, there is a great need for rails, whether it is for going up or down steps to keeping someone in bed, or someone from falling from a patio or deck perhaps, it seems rails are going around everything these days.

The first real reason why people use rails at all is for safety purposes, the second reason is for design of course, and the last reason is probably for looks, so whatever the rails are going up around don’t look so awkward or bare.

Wrought iron rails you will usually find outdoors, such as going up steps to a home. While you might see wrought iron rails all put together to form some kind of fencing. This isn’t uncommon. Most wooden stair rails you can find indoors or outdoors and in both cases, you will probably see them painted or sanded or varnished, so as no slivers can get into a person’s hands. Stair rails are important so a person has something to hold on to while walking up or down steps. Another good idea for rails is if a patio or deck is up off the ground level some, rails can be put into place for security purposes that smaller children won’t be so apt to fall off the patio or deck if it is enclosed by a railing of some kind.

Another type of rail would be bed rails, these are most often times used for toddlers or for the elderly who are unable to stay in bed. Hospitals will use bed rails too as a security precaution for their patients. These bed rails are usually made of aluminum and are easy to sterilize or be kept clean.

For the elderly the rails can be wooden but in most cases, they too are aluminum and are for security purposes.

The bed rails that are usually made of wood you will find on baby cribs or toddler beds for example, in this case the baby or the toddler inside the crib or bed is considered secure so the parents don’t have to worry about the little one falling out of bed. This also goes for the elderly, say in nursing homes or assisted living homes, their beds also have bed rails to ensure their safety as well, so that they are able to stay in bed and have a good night’s rest as well.

The rails that are along steps in most cases are put there in the aspect of being a safety feature and many times are fastened snugly. However in some minor situations the rails whether they have been made of wood or some other material have been known to come away from the wall, if a person has slipped and has started to fall down the stair, they reach to grab the stair rail, and it gives, literally coming away from the wall and causing the fall to be even more intense and possibly painful. This is why more stair rails that are being installed are actually inspected and tested for durability on public stair cases.
