Wood Balls and Pilasters

If you aren’t sure just exactly what a pilaster is then you don’t know what you are missing out on, in completing a hand rail project or adding a stylish look to your kitchen. Pilasters are fancy turned posts or slats that are split in two so they mount on flat surfaces but look like they are still round.

Or perhaps you are wanting your bookshelves to look a bit fancier, they are sometimes used for this effect as well by mounting them on either side.

Wooden Balls are often used to top off a column or wooden project such as a hand rail at the top or bottom of a staircase.

There are plenty of uses for pilasters and believe it or the designs are endless in for what you want your woodworking project to turn out to look like. Some pilasters are rather simple with a light textured design while others are unique and hard to find so it might be a good idea to buy a couple of extras in case one gets broken.

The idea of using wooden balls on columns to enhance a stairwell or something of this nature can actually have any size of wooden balls, while some are larger than others there are those who create stairwells using the smaller wooden balls for their stairwell ends.

If you are doing a project yourself using wooden pilasters and wooden balls remember that patience is important for your project to turn out good, as well as having a plan to go by, whether you have come up with the plan yourself or someone has helped you, you need to follow the plan.

For example how many wooden pilasters you will need to complete the job and how far apart you want them to be, in order for the project to look really good.

Most home improvement stores and some hardware stores sell the pilasters and wooden balls you will need, even some lumber stores as well. However, if you want a wide variety of wooden pilasters it would be to your advantage to go to a home improvement store, they always have a better variety and a lot more to chooses from as far as the design you want. Some look more antique than others while other wooden pilasters have the more modern design and style. They can be found in website catalogs too.

Another important thing to consider is the fact that the cost may be less if you buy more at once, in some stores if you buy them by a dozen or more you save, than if you buy them single while in other places and stores it really doesn’t matter as they have no sales discount of this type. It really depends on where you go to shop for your wooden pilasters or wooden balls.

The most important concept of the entire idea of creating a project is having fun while you are doing it and not getting frustrated, if this happens for some reason leave it and come back to it; as with every project it will always seem to look different if you give yourself a break and them come back to your project and never rush yourself. A good woodworking project always turns out best if it is done at a pace where you can see the woodworking project literally turning into some kind of wood working masterpiece. And, the best part is you don’t have to be a professional wood worker to make enhancements with wooden pilasters, they are pre designed for you. And of course wooden balls, the only decision you have with those is what size you need.
